I Lost 3st And Still Couldnt Get Rid Of My Stubborn Double Chin. Then I Found An Astonishing, Permanent Knife-free Cure Few Know About… So Can You Guess My Secret?
A candid photo taken on holiday in St Lucia in 2024 cemented the idea in my head: my double chin simply had to go.
It wasn’t that I was overweight. Over the preceding year I’d lost 2st 10lb and now weighed a perfectly slim 11st. My body confidence was high – except for that stubborn wobble beneath my chin.
In fact, for as long as I can remember, I’d had a little pocket of fat there. Now, seeing that pic, and the way it ruined my newly slender image, I was determined to deal with it once and for all. I was a 31-year-old beauty editor and I would have a razor-sharp jawline.

Over the course of six months, I threw myself into experimental mode. I tried fat-dissolving injections and skin-tightening lasers, but they either failed to work at all or gave me barely noticeable results that disappeared within months.
And then I came across AirSculpt – a treatment that permanently removes fat without general anaesthesia, scalpels or stitches.
Created by Beverly Hills-based cosmetic surgeon Dr Aaron Rollins, AirSculpt is similar to liposuction but sophisticated.
‘Lipo is done using a large, sharp, cheese-grater-on-a-stick-style instrument,’ Dr Rollins explains. ‘It scrapes out the fat and in the process, flesh like muscle and skin tissue can be injured. It’s brutal, invasive and doesn’t always provide the results or the skin-tightening effect.’

By contrast, he says, ‘with AirSculpt, fat is removed robotically, in a keyhole-type procedure, through a 2mm hole – the size of an average freckle. We’re plucking one fat cell at a time, without affecting other areas.’

To rid herself of her double chin, Emma North (after picture) tried a treatment that permanently removes fat without general anaesthesia, scalpels or stitches

The claim is that AirSculpt tightens skin, too. ‘Fat is removed but energy-based radio frequency is also applied to help loose tissues contract,’ he explains.

The downsides? It’s not cheap – the treatment starts at £8,000 – and like all aesthetic procedures it’s not totally risk-free, with embolisms (blood clots), infection and nerve damage a tiny possibility. But after a thorough consultation, I booked myself into the Elite Body Sculpture clinic on London’s Harley Street with Dr Omar Tillo.
After assessing my chin area and asking about my preferences regarding how I wanted my neck to look, Dr Tillo marked me up accordingly.
A few minutes later, I was taken to the operating room where, using an AirPen (essentially a pressurised delivery system for anaesthetic that eliminates the need for typical needle injections) lidocaine was spread across my neck and I was numbed from ear to ear. Then, the procedure began.
First, Dr Tillo created three entry points using a skin punch – a 2mm-wide hole punch-style instrument – one under my chin and one on either side of my neck. A cannula, or probe, was then slipped under the skin at each entry point. Vibrating gently but fast, this thin hollow rod broke up the fat through friction and also tightened the skin by stimulating collagen.

Awake during all of this, I was able to watch as the fat was ‘plucked out’ into a clear tube above me. Gruesome, but satisfying. In fact a surprisingly small amount of fluid, around 2-3oz, came out in the end.
Done and dusted in just 30 minutes, I was fitted with a compression hood that fitted snugly across my neck and chin, fastening at the top of my head, to reduce swelling or bruising.
Around four hours later, now back at home, the anaesthetic wore off, and my neck began to ache and my chin to sting. But paracetamol and ibuprofen kept the discomfort at bay.
The most disconcerting moment came when I woke the next morning to find my pillow streaked with blood. It sounds horrifying but apparently it was all to be expected.

With AirSculpt, there are no stitches; the hole punch sites are deliberately left open to allow the numbing fluid to escape. This not only helps reduce swelling, but also speeds up recovery.
As a result some blood can ooze from these points through the post-procedure gauze. Within two days, however, my incision sites had healed and my neck was almost back to normal, aside from some swelling and a few yellowish bruises across my chin and neck.
Recovery was far easier than I expected. I kept my compression garment on and, after 48 hours, the need for painkillers was gone.
The results are not instant. It takes around six weeks to see the difference, and, for me, it took two months.

But now? It’s been two years, and I can honestly say I have the jawline I’ve always dreamt of. My jawbone looks chiselled, defined and sharp. When nodding my head forward, the pocket of fat that bulged outwards simply isn’t there. I actually enjoy having my photo taken without worrying about how my chin appears.
Sadly, what I had done is now only available in the US, as Elite Body Sculpture closed its UK clinic in the autumn last year to focus on its US offices. However, if you’re looking for a similar treatment, FaceTite is an effective alternative.
Like AirSculpt, FaceTite is performed under local anaesthetic and combines precise liposuction with energy-based skin tightening.
‘FaceTite requires no incisions or lengthy recovery,’ says Dr Natasha Berridge, consultant maxillofacial plastic surgeon and provider of FaceTite at various clinics in London, including The Door W4 in Chiswick.

‘A small cannula is inserted beneath the skin, delivering radio frequency energy to stimulate collagen production and remove excess fat. You get measurable contour improvement plus improved skin tightness and skin quality.’
Prices for FaceTite start from £7,000. Again, it’s expensive, but also permanent.
And as far as I’m concerned, it’s money well spent. My procedure didn’t just sharpen my jawline – it honed my wobbly self-confidence too.
