A statement issued by FIFA said: “The FIFA Council, held on the sidelines of the Intercontinental Cup final between Paris Saint-Germain (France) and Flamengo (Brazil) in Doha, Qatar, approved a record financial contribution of 727 million US dollars.”
This represents a 50 percent increase compared to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, in proportion to the 50 percent increase in the number of participating teams, after it rose from 32 to 48 teams.
While each team will receive US$1.5 million to “cover the costs of its preparations,” the bulk of the sum allocated by FIFA, amounting to US$655 million, is allocated to prize money.
The winner of the World Cup title will receive $50 million, and the runner-up will receive $33 million, amounting to $9 million for each of the 12 teams that exit the first round.
The financial prizes for the 2026 World Cup are distributed as follows:
First place: $50 million
Second place: 33 million
Third place: 29 million
Fourth place: 27 million
Positions 5 to 8: 19 million
Positions 9 to 16: 15 million
Positions 17 to 32: 11 million
Positions 33 to 48: 9 million.
